The children brought Easter presents to the wards of the RPB and brought a smile to the faces of the residents and staff.
Preparations for Easter are in full swing
On February 26, the children of the Kinderkrippe Kolibri celebrated carnival together with the residents of the RPB with lots of music, dancing and laughter.
Construction sites generally cause more frustration and annoyance than enthusiasm. Especially if they take a long time, like the construction site on the grounds of the Regionales Plegezentrum in Baden (RPB) on Wettingerstrasse. Construction has been underway there since summer 2023 and is expected to continue until 2028. The noise, dust and constant detours are a daily burden for most people. But for one particular group, this construction site is a great joy: the children at the Kinderkrippe Kolibri. Kolibri has been on the RPB site since 2013 and the children have been fascinated by the construction work ever since it began. Whether buildings are being demolished, deep holes dug, foundations poured or cranes erected, the children are completely enthralled. “If possible, we left the house half an hour early in the morning to watch the construction work on the new parking garage in front of the singing circle,” says one mother. Many a parent is now much more knowledgeable about the names and functions of the various construction site vehicles used.
In 2023, Kolibri also chose the construction site as its theme for the year and worked intensively with the children on the topic in various projects. For example, the mascot “Achter” pointed out the dangers of a building site at the start of the construction work. The construction site was also regularly included in the daily afternoon walks, which were organized by the children.
On October 4, the construction site once again became a highlight in the daycare center's daily routine and a place full of adventure and discoveries. The children were allowed to visit the construction site and had the rare opportunity to experience work on a construction site up close:
Right at the start, the children were able to watch the excavator at work. The huge construction machine impressed everyone and the children watched intently as it moved earth. It was particularly exciting for those who were allowed to steer the excavator themselves. Under the guidance of the excavator driver, they were allowed to steer the excavator and helped to fill a truck with soil. This experience was an absolute highlight for the children and it was also a welcome change for the workers on the construction site to interact with the children.
After this exciting activity, we moved on to the so-called mock-up, a model of the future façade. Here, the children were allowed to climb onto the mock-up using scaffolding. Once at the top, they stood behind the windows or on the terrace and enjoyed the view from above. The children were thrilled and had a lot of fun exploring the construction site from this perspective.
The visit to the construction site was an unforgettable experience for the daycare group. The children learned a lot about working on a construction site and had a lot of fun at the same time. It was a day full of adventure and new impressions that the children will certainly remember for a long time to come.
